Gravesend residents and councillors head to Downing Street to celebrate Eid

Members of the Gravesham and Dartford Muslim Association (GDMA) visited Downing Street to celebrate Eid.

The group headed to number 10 on Tuesday, June 19, to attend a reception around the Muslim festival.

Eid is a Muslim festival that celebrates the breaking of fasting at the end of Ramadan.

Gravesend councillor Gurjit Kaur Bains (Con) arranged for community members to attened the event hosted by the Prime Minister.

The Cabinet Member for Community Development was glad hard working Muslim’s in the community could be recognised for their hard work.

She said: “It was such an honour to accompany members of the Gravesham and Dartford Muslim Association to Number 10, and for them to be recognised for their hard work promoting cohesion in the community.

“I’m now looking forward to this Saturday and continuing the celebrations with the Festival of Eid on Community Square in Gravesend.”

The reception in London was to celebrate the contributions British Muslims make to the country.

To mark the end of Ramadan the Gravesham Council is working alongside multiple organisations to hold an arranged special community celebration on Saturday, June 23.

The Festival of Eid will take place at the community square between 1:30pm and 5pm and will focus on bringing the communities of Gravesham together with activities, food, drink, face painting and entertainment.
