Now you can eat local at your local as the Three Daws has introduced a new menu featuring locally sourced produce.

On Monday, new Gravesham mayor John Caller popped in to sample the new 12-dish menu which includes Kentish rarebit, potted shrimp, pint of whitebait, Kent ploughmans, farmers breakfast, Meopham & Mash, and Kentish gypsy tart.

Landlord of the 15th century Crooked Lane pub Lester Banks said: “The whole concept was developed by our chef Simon Pritchard, to bring back some old dishes and use local produce in those dishes.

“The reaction has been really positive and there’s been a great reaction. Our most popular, one has to say, it the gypsy tart and the shrimp.

"This is now a permanent addition to our menu and we’re looking at developing it and broadening the choice.”

Tucking in was newly elected mayor John Caller.

He told the Messenger: “The food is lovely. It’s great that the food is grown close to home and produced in the borough.

"It’s amazing, really, that we produce so much around the borough and it makes sense to eat what you grow where you live.

“I’ve absolutely loved the whitebait and the chips are superb.

"I’m saving the gypsy tart until last as it was always my favourite at school.”
