Ebbsfleet defender Darius Charles has turned down the offer of a new contract to sign for Stevenage.
Charles (pictured) has signed a two-year deal with the League 2 newcomers but Ebbsfleet will be entitled to compensation as the player is under 24.
Stevenage chairman Phil Wallace said: "Graham (Westley) has always liked Darius and we tried to buy him twice last season but couldn’t agree a fee. Graham believes he will add a lot to the squad as he is an outstanding player in several positions."
Charles turned down a move to play-off finalists York last summer but was keen to return to the Football League after leaving Brentford to join the Fleet.
Stevenage and Ebbsfleet will now try to agree a mutually acceptable transfer fee, failing which the fee will be decided by a tribunal.
