Ebbsfleet’s Blue Square Bet South promotion push suffered a blow after a goalless draw against nine-man strugglers Bishops Stortford at Stonebridge Road on Saturday.

Neither team was able to find a breakthrough in the lunchtime kick-off, though after a quiet opening half the hosts laid siege to the visitors goal after the break, with Fleet keeper Preson Edwards a virtual bystander.

Tom Phipp and Michael West went closest for the home side in the opening 45 minutes while Calum Willock (pictured) headed wide when well-placed after the break before being brought down when clean through 20 minutes from time, resulting in a red card for Mo Habu.

Willock spurned another chance before Stortford substitute Stefan Gaisie was dismissed in the dying seconds for a tackle on Phipp.

Fleet have now won just one of their last six league games and the play-off chasing pack were able to cut their cushion to just two points.
