Escape room entrepreneurs are taking on a 24-hour challenge in aid of a homeless charity.

Husband and wife Alex and Monique Souter, who own The Panic Room, in Gravesend, will be playing board games throughout the day and night as part of the marathon.

Alex said: “Over the last few years we have seen board game cafes across the world do a number of different charity drives and movements, when we saw about doing a 24-hour board game marathon we loved the idea.

“It is something that can get many people involved, it is something people can support from afar and we love a challenge.

“I am sure copious amounts of caffeine will be involved and we look forward to rolling dice through the night.”

The pair will be playing board games for 24 hours as they hope to raise £1,000 for Gravesham Sanctuary – a homelessness charity for people in the borough.

They have also donated games, puzzles and books to give those who are living there something to enjoy but wanted to see if there was more they could do.

Alex added: “The cost of living crisis has affected many people in different ways and has greatly exacerbated the number of people ending up on the street.

“This not only means that there are people new on the street needing support but also means that existing support will be stretched further.

“We believe that everyone deserves a safe place to call home and we are committed to doing our part to help make that a reality.”

Others are invited to join Alex and Monique in playing for as long as they can and are asked to pay a £1.50 fee per person for an hour at a table which will be donated to the charity.

Since opening seven years ago, Alex and Monique have expanded their escape experiences to online games, axe throwing, a games store and two more branches in Essex and Niagara Falls in America.

Last year, they also opened a 13,000 sq ft family entertainment centre which is a hub of futuristic and arcade-style games.

The 24-hour event will be held from 2pm on Friday, September 22, to 2pm on Saturday, September 23, at Don’t Panic Gift and Games in the St George’s Centre, Kempthorne Street.
