A farmer will go head-to-head against 10 of the country's most skilled home cooks.

He will be judged by the queen of home cooking, Mary Berry, in the new BBC One show, Britain's Best Home Cook.

Trevor Jones, from Meopham, was drawn into cooking through his farming background.

The 30-year-old, who began cooking alongside his mum and Auntie Irene, enjoys working with an array of spices and has a love of bold flavours.

He said: "Coming from a farming background you have a real appreciation for how it’s not easy growing food in any shape or form.

"It doesn’t just pop out of the ground, it’s a difficult job.

"There are some wonderful ingredients, I see them and I just want to cook it and eat it."

Trevor will appear in the new eight-part series, hosted by Claudia Winkleman, to face a range of culinary challenges.

It will also feature produce expert Chris Bavin, and chef Dan Doherty.

Each contestant has travelled across Britain to live under the same roof, as part of the immersive experience.

Trevor said: "I like to think that I am unique and I would like to think of my cooking as a little different too.

"Overall, I just have a lot of joy when I’m cooking, I just love doing it.

"That’s hopefully what comes across in my cooking, is that I’m just enjoying doing it."

All contestant cooking areas in the show are personalised, and Trevor decided to take some home favourites along with him.

His choices include a Massey Ferguson teapot, inspired by the tractors used on his farm, a jug in the shape of a duck, and a bust of Mozart.

Trevor also took his pestle and mortar, which has been in his family for years.

The search for Britain’s Best Home Cook begins tonight at 8pm on BBC One.
