Broken down train blocks line between Gravesend and Strood
18:25, 16 July 2023
All trains were forced to stop due to a freight train blocking the line.
Services between Strood and Gravesend came to a standstill because of the other train breaking down at about 5.30pm.
Southeastern told customers no passenger trains could run as a result due to all lines being out of action but the freight train was moved shortly after 6.15pm.
A spokesman said it had now been moved clear of the mainline meaning services could begin again.
But they warned: “Services been disrupted as a result of this incident so may be delayed or altered whilst we work to get things back on time.”
Network Rail staff and maintenance teams were reportedly called to the scene.
High speed services between St Pancras and Ramsgate via Faversham are also impacted by the issue.
A spokesman assured passengers tickets would be accepted on bus routes in the area.
These include the Arriva Fastrack Route B between Dartford, Ebbsfleet and Gravesend Arriva Bus Route 190 between Gravesend, Higham and Strood.
