Mid Kent Golf Club to hold vote on future in February

00:01, 08 January 2018

A golf club is to hold a vote on its future in February.

The committee at Mid Kent Golf Club, in Singlewell Road, Gravesend, is to ask members whether they should sell the 88-acre plot off to Wrotham Road, Harman Avenue and Chalky Bank, to property developers.

Builders are offering to build a new course on green belt land in the borough.

The Messenger revealed last year that selling the land was one of three options. The other two are to stay but repair the existing clubhouse, which is in desperate need of an update, or knocking it down and rebuilding it from scratch.

Steve Armstrong, general manager for the club, said it would cost around £1.5m to repair the clubhouse.

He said: “We have not really told the members exactly when the vote is but we are going to go back to them in February. We are putting information out for all the members to see the options.”
