A group of mums in Gravesend got together for The Big Latch On - a global event to raise awareness about breastfeeding.

Members of Gravesham Breast Buddies went along to the Cyclopark at The Tollgate where they joined women across the world in feeding their babies for a minute.

Victoria Horsey, 30, mum to William, two, said: “This is the third year we have done and over the years we have notice the difference.

"It’s about bring the normality into breast feeding in public. It is not a such a taboo issue as it was. And hopefully it encourages mums to be to feel comfortable in doing it."

Ms Horsey, 30, of West Kent Avenue, Gravesend, said eight mums took part on Saturday.
The initiative began in New Zealand to counter sensitivities about the issue, following a number of incidents where mothers were either banned or encountered hostility by feeding in public.

Latch On aims to make breastfeeding a normal part of the day-to-day life at a local level and to ensure communities have the resources to provide appropriate and accessible support services.

The campaign is part of World Breastfeeding Week, held each year, and supporters have seen a growth in the numbers of breastfeeding women attending and an increase in the support for breastfeeding in public.]
