Man allegedly attacked car and driver with hammer in Mounts Road, Greenhithe

A man allegedly attacked a car with a hammer and smashed the window glass before hitting the driver inside.

Police were called to Mounts Road, Greenhithe, at 5.30pm yesterday to reports a man was walking around with a hammer and an altercation took place.

A man who witnessed the alleged attack and called the police said the culprit was walking down the road before he started to hit the Vauxhall Corsa, repeatedly striking the window, and then the driver inside.

It caused a hold up to traffic on the busy B255 which joins Mounts Road.

A police spokeswoman said: "Patrols were called to the area, but when they arrived there was no sign of a damaged car."

"They searched the area, but no victims made themselves known to police."
