Harry Crawley turned in a stunning display on his maiden appearance in the Kartmasters event with a second-placed finish.

The Dartford youngster, who is chasing titles in the national championship’s Super 1 and Formula Karting Stars series, excelled in the highlight event of the UK karting calendar.

Crawley was up against a 40-strong field, which consisted of the best young British racing talent and he was taking on the front-runners right from the off.

After claiming the coveted pole position for the pre-final it gave the 12-year-old plenty of confidence at the PF international track in Lincolnshire.

A bad start and an incident on the first hairpin, however, left Crawley down in 16th but by the end he was up to fourth.

It left Crawley well-placed for the all-important 20 lap grand final. He climbed to third after the first corner and was second with three laps to go but time ran out as he tried to catch leader Jack Barlow.

"If I’d had just three more laps I’m sure I could have been right with him," said Crawley.

"I was very pleased and proud of my performance, especially with it being my first-ever time at Kartmasters.
