The mother of a 14-year-old boy who was robbed of his electric scooter says her son is still in shock.

The beauty salon worker said the incident in Dene Holm Road, Gravesend, has caused their family lots of anxiety.

She said: "At around 5.30pm on Thursday, my son was riding his e scooter to the park along Coldharbour Road by Morrisons.

"Every day after school, when he has finished his homework, he goes and meets his friends.

"He'd rung me and explained he should be home soon but shortly after he called me in hysterics."

The teen revealed a boy in his late teens had thrown him off his scooter and stole it.

The mum, who has asked us not to publish her name, continued: "My son only turned 14 on Sunday and the scooter was an early present. He is the worst child this could have happened to.

"He is dyslexic, anxious and is not streetwise at all; he is scared of his own shadow.

"Witnesses have come forward and explained that the suspect grabbed my son off the scooter and sent him flying.

"It looked like he also punched him in the face. They saw this person throw my son to the floor.

"The boy that did this was apparently around six foot and my son is only five foot.

"Builders in a van saw the robbery and chased down the boy who stole the scooter. They got the scooter back, thankfully, but the suspect was armed with a knife so they couldn't detain him."

"When I received that call from him, he was screaming and crying, it is every mum's worse nightmare."

The mother said her child had a panic attack at the scene but a nurse walking past at the time stopped to help.

"A wonderful woman stayed with my son until I arrived. He was obviously really upset but she really helped.

"I put an appeal out on Facebook asking for witnesses and so many people came forward to help. They were all just as shocked with what they saw.

"I've taken flowers to them all to say thank you. I just want to make sure this person is caught for what they did so it doesn't happen to anyone else.

"When I received that call from him, he was screaming and crying, it is every mum's worse nightmare."

Police are investigating the robbery and inquiries to establish the full circumstances continue.

The suspect is described as being black and in his late teens. At the time, he is said to have been wearing sports clothing.
