Could the next great animated satire be born in Gravesend?

Hoping to rival juggernauts such as The Simpsons and Family Guy is The Bruvs, a web series following the trials and tribulations of a family of villains trying to get on the straight and narrow.

The show is the brainchild of Ian Brown, a TV writer and producer who lives in Cross Lane East, Gravesend.

He has previously worked alongside former Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson and has big ambitions for his newest project, which has so far featured local destinations like Bluewater.

“The Bruvs is starting quite small – but we have big hopes,” said Ian.

“It is a shame that there is not a big Brit animation that has broad appeal like those American juggernauts The Simpsons, Family Guy and South Park.

“Animation is an expensive and a slow process, but we are building up a catalogue and have had a very encouraging response so far.”

The Bruvs features brothers Doug and Den, who have taken over their dad’s firm and moved from London’s East End to Kent to try to make a fresh start.

It is described as ‘animation for grown-ups’, inspired by the heyday of the Mitchell brothers in EastEnders and classic cop shows like The Sweeney.

Ian, who has also worked with the likes of Jason Statham, Liam Neeson and Ross Kemp, is producing the series alongside animator Eoin Clarke.

They have already attracted thousands of fans on social media and have also received feedback from a few famous faces.

Eamonn Holmes and Coronation Street’s Simon Gregson have both wished the pair good luck on Twitter, while actresses Thandie Newton and Melanie Sykes have praised the show’s art style.

“As we are online we have had amazing feedback not only from the celebs but throughout the UK, America, Australia and across Europe,” said Ian.

“It is early days still for The Bruvs but we hope to expand and make longer episodes in due course — as long as enough people like us and keep watching!”
