Cobham war memorial service of remembrance and re-dedication

A service of remembrance and re-dedication was held to mark 100 years of a village war memorial.
Saturday's service was followed by an exhibition and talks in the nearby Meadow Room in Cobham.
There was also a re-enactment based on a photograph from the Christmas Eve 1921 unveiling of the cross and an excerpt from an article in the Kent Messenger.
The article described the "lofty cross to immortalise the heroic men of the village who sacrificed their lives in the battle for liberty."
At the original service, the memorial was unveiled by the Countess of Darnley, and dedicated by the then vicar of Cobham, the reverend AH Berger. A guard of honour was formed by some of the returned heroes, joined by school boys and girls bearing holly and lavender wreaths, which they placed on the memorial.
Saturday's ceremony saw many invited guests pay their respects, and lay similar wreaths.
