A charity has received a message of support from a member of the Royal Family.
Northfleet based hospice ellenor, which cares for people with terminal illnesses and their families, received the message as part of The Duchess of Cambridge's support for Children's Hospice Week, which started on Monday.
She worked alongside Together for Short Lives, a charity for seriously ill children, and East Anglia's Children's Hospices (EACH), which she is a Royal Patron of.
In a message to hospices across the country, Her Royal Highness (HRH) said: “Children’s hospices provide vital sanctuaries for those experiencing the very toughest of times. They help families and carers build life long memories that are poignant, happy and often filled with laughter.
"They provide a lifeline to children and families for however long support is needed and I hope that others join me in thanking them as we shine a light on their work during Children's Hospice Week.”
The message was welcomed by the ellenor team as it helps to 'shine a light' on children's hospices and how staff help young people and their families.
"We welcome her support in highlighting the important work we do..." - Rebecca Scalzo
Head of children's services at the hospice, Rebecca Scalzo, said: “ellenor is thrilled that HRH The Duchess of Cambridge is helping to raise awareness of services offered by ellenor, and other hospices across the country, by marking Children’s Hospice Week 2019.
"We welcome her support in highlighting the important work we do, helping children, young people and their families to make the most of life.
"Many people do not understand the challenges faced by families when a child has a life limiting or life threatening illness and we are delighted to have her support”.
The Duchess of Cambridge has been supporting Children's Hospice Week, which ends on Sunday June 23, since 2013.
