Sponsored walk at Darent Valley Hospital to raise money in the battle with cancer
06:00, 21 July 2019
People remembered loved ones who suffered with cancer and raised money for those fighting it by taking part in a sponsored walk.
The Stride4Life event was held at Darent Valley Hospital, in Dartford, over the weekend.
Each year the event is organised by Joan Warwick, and her family in memory of husband John.
He was treated at the hospital for seven years, battling against bowel cancer, before he passed away in 2003.
At Stride4Life participants are sponsored to walk around the hospital grounds seven times, one for each year Mr Warwick was treated there.
Mrs Warwick said: “The day was a huge success, everyone had a great time.
“We have an army of about 100 volunteers helping out and organising the event.
“Everyone who volunteers has been impacted by cancer in some way.
“They are either patients in remission or have family members with the disease.”
Over the last 15 years the annual event has raised £473,000.
A total for this year has not yet been calculated.
All the money goes to Darent Valley Hospital’s Cancer Fighting Fund which supports the Pine Therapy Unit.
