Firefighters were called to the scene of two field fires today.

About five hectares of standing corn was ablaze - the size of nine football pitches - this afternoon in Nurstead Lane, New Barn, near Gravesend.

Large flames could be seen on a field after the fire started at about 3.30pm.

Seven fire engines and two all-terrain vehicles attended, and crews put the fire out using hose reel jets, beaters and a fogging unit.

There were no reported injuries and the cause is not yet known.

Crews extinguished the fire shortly after 4.30pm.

Later in the day, Kent Fire and Rescue Service crews were called to Great Lines Heritage Park in Chatham, near to Lines Terrace, where an area of approximately 30x40m of grass was alight.

Four fire engines attended at about 6pm and crews spent about an hour putting out the fire out using hose reel jets and beaters.

Pictures were also shared on social media last night of a third field fire near The Cross at Lenham, although details have yet to be confirmed.

The fires come after crews tackled a field fire off Lower Rochester Road, Higham, last night.
