A spokesman for the fire service said: “It is only a small room but it was well alight. There was some damage to the neighbouring hallway and the gym. There is a lot of expensive equipment in there so the fire caused a lot of damage.”
The cause of the fire is now being investigated. Police remain at the centre this morning
The gym is owned by Gravesham Borough Council. A keyholder and manager were alerted to the blaze and attended the site in the early hours.
