James Hockley described his record breaking unbeaten 283 for Hartley against Gore Court on Saturday as "one of those days when everything went right."

Hockley's knock was the highest ever individual score in the Kent League, as Hartley hammered Gore Court by 340 runs in the Premier Division.

He said: "Hartley is not a big ground and the outfield was lightning fast.

"When I got to my hundred in 24 overs I thought that a big score could be on and then when we reached 400 I looked to the pavilion for a bit of guidance as to whether we were going to declare, but they said, ‘just carry on!"

Hockley added: "I played quite a few games early in the season but Kent have got such a strong squad now that it’s not easy to get back in but I will keep grafting away.

"I am still only 30 and feel fit enough to keep going for a good few years yet."
