Gravesend’s Kate French won team gold with Great Britain at the Modern Pentathlon World Junior Championships in Argentina.

French, alongside Freyja Prentice and Lydia Rosling, helped Team GB retain their team title on Saturday and the teenager also finished eighth in the overall individual standings.

Having travelled to Buenos Aires aiming to record a top-10 placing, French made a strong start when she won 22 contests to rank sixth in the fencing.

In the 200-metres freestyle swimming, her time of 2:20.67 saw her slip down to ninth place but she dropped only 28 points in the showjumping arena.

That performance helped her to a total of 5,212 points, with Hungary’s Sarolta Kovacs scoring 5,380 points to take individual gold.
