Heavy rainfall across the county left the Messenger team scrambling for their coats and umbrellas this week.

The intense downpour on Thursday morning left most of Kent completely drenched, with the Gravesend high street office suffering flooding after the ceiling began leaking due to a blocked down pipe.

Computers were shielded from the water and beloved cameras were frantically removed from the scene, with the carpet, desks and chairs bearing the brunt of the soaking.

Other occupants of the building were also affected, with flats above the office forced to open the windows and whack up the cental heating to tackle the damp.

Yani Xhari, 36, said his bedroom was still drying off more than 24 hours after the leaks began.

“The water has gone everywhere,” he said.

“There is a leak in the bedroom and it is obviously very damp. It is like a small flood in there.

“I have got the heat on all the time and the windows are open.”

Corridors and doorways throughout the building were also left wet, while dramatic footage of flash flooding in Valley Road, Fawkham also showcased the impact of the rain in the area.

Thankfully a drier weekend is in store, although temperatures are expected to take a dip next week.

The Met Office says the temperature will drop dramatically, with some sub-zero recordings in parts of the UK.

The colder weather will kick off by hitting Scotland on Monday, before spreading into the south of England by the middle of the week.

A giant Arctic air mass is believed to be behind the colder temperatures, with snow a possibility as we head deeper into January.

As long as it doesn’t get into the office.
