Gravesend's cinema will reopen in just under two weeks.

The Paul Greengrass Cinema, at The Woodville theatre, will be screening films from July 13, it has been announced.

Film lovers will be welcomed back to a clean and safe venue, with social distancing and hygiene measures conforming with all official guidance.

Cllr Shane Mochrie-Cox, Gravesham council’s cabinet member for community and leisure, said: “The Woodville team is looking forward to welcoming customers old and new after a long period in lockdown following government advice.

“Things may be a little different when you arrive, but the team has been working incredibly hard to ensure a safe and fun visit.”

The first film shown will be Military Wives – starring Kristin Scott Thomas and Sharon Horgan – and safety measures in place will include a limit of 50 people per screening, with families allowed to sit together in groups of up to four. Groups of larger than four will be split into smaller numbers.

There will be no more than two screenings a day, giving staff time to thoroughly clean the auditorium between shows.

A one-way system will be in place with customers arriving via the main entrance to Gravesham Civic Centre.

On arrival, visitors will be asked some essential health questions. Anyone considered to be displaying symptoms of coronavirus – a fever, a continuous cough, or experiencing a loss of taste or smell – will receive a full refund and asked to return at a later date.

For those who enjoy a drink and a snack while watching their film, a limited menu will be available. Orders can be placed at Spotlites Café to be picked up from Footlights bar on the way into the auditorium.

All customers will be issued with a disposable cover to use on their seat, which staff will clear at the end of the screening.

Cllr Mochrie-Cox added: “The Paul Greengrass Cinema is the ideal place to catch a film at a local venue, taking away the need to travel to larger venues or on public transport.

“We will have plenty of staff available to help ensure everyone understands and follows all the precautions we have put in place and that everyone has a relaxed and comfortable day or evening out.”

All tickets must be pre-booked. Other screenings lined up include Misbehaviour, The Call of the Wild, Trolls World Tour and Oscar-winning Parasite.

The cinema opened in 2013 and is named after The Bourne Supremacy director and former Gravesend Grammar School pupil, who paid a visit the following year.
