Discount supermarket chain Lidl could be set to open another store in the county - just around the corner from a huge Morrisons.

Gravesend may be getting its second store from the German group after a planning application was sent to the council.

The plans for land south of Coldharbour Road is a short distance to a Morrisons supermarket.

If accepted the proposal would add more than 140 car parking spaces.

The application for the 2,125 sq. m store was joined by another proposal that would see six commercial units added to the site along with an additional 76 parking spaces.

London based property developers Kier sent a letter to residents outlining their plans and inviting them to a public exhibition on the proposal.

The letter said: "Kier Property Limited invites you to a public exhibition on our proposals for land south of Coldharbour Road and west of the A221 Wrotham Road.

"The site is bound by Toby Carvery and Travelodge hotel to the east and a Morrison's supermarket to the west.

"Our plans include the development of a new Lidl supermarket alongside a range of high quality commercial units which will cater for a range of local, regional and national operators."

They continued, adding that propsals will "provide new jobs, improved landscaping and make a positive contribution to the existing commercial belt north of the A2."

Members of the public can attend the exhibition tomorrow, Thursday November 15, at the Best Western Manor Hotel, in Hever Court Road, Singlewell, Gravesend, between 2pm and 8pm.

If successful, the new Lidl store would be the second in the town, with one currently located in Imperial Retail Park, Thames Way.

One resident who lives nearby, Kevin Back, is concerned about the proposal.

He said: "I am concerned about the amount of traffic because at the moment it is sometimes heavy, even more so at school times and if an incident occurs on the A2/ M25, that will obviously be somewhat increased when the units are fully open."
