Shock in Northfleet as body of dog left to rot in bin bag in Larkfields

10:00, 18 July 2014

A grandmother felt "absolutely sick" when she discovered the decomposing body of a dog wrapped in a bin bag in Northfleet.

Michele Simmons, 42, found the body in Larkfields at around 11.30am on Saturday, but thinks the animal had been dead for weeks.

It was laying close to where bins used to be collected.

Animal-lover Mrs Simmons, who has six puppies and two dogs, said: "It made me feel absolutely sick because the stench was awful."

The body was so badly decomposed the mother-of-five and grandmother-of-three could not tell what animal it was.

The RSPCA said it could not deal with the body until it was determined what animal it was.

A Gravesham council worker told Mrs Simmons it was a dog.

She said: "If a dog is dead you do something with the body, you don't put it in a bag to rot."
