London Paramount entertainment resort plans: New details and pictures unveiled for Swanscombe park
17:01, 28 April 2015
Spectacular shows, a mythical castle and a revamped road system have all been promised in the latest unveiling of plans to build a huge entertainment resort in Swanscombe.
New illustrations have been released imagining what the park would look like if it is given the green light by the Secretary of State when plans are submitted in late summer.
Developer London Resort Company Holdings (LRCH) revealed more ideas for what visitors can expect when the park opens its doors in 2020 – if all goes to plan.
An alternative design for a dedicated exit on the A2 for traffic heading for the resort was also revealed as another round of public consultation got under way.
The first will be at Gravesend Old Town Hall tomorrow (Wednesday) between 4pm and 8pm, followed by another on Thursday at Bluewater shopping centre, 10am-9pm with more in the coming weeks.
LRCH said the park would be “a catalyst for regeneration in the area including the delivery of the Ebbsfleet Garden City” and would bring a multi-million pound investment to Dartford and Gravesham and the rest of Kent.
The entertainment resort will contain a number of themed zones – including Port Plaza, Paramount Port Bay, Adventure Isle, and a Myths and Legends Castle, according to documents.
Every day in the late afternoon a “Paramount and Friends Carnival” is planned to take place, followed by a “spectacular show” celebrating the works of Paramount Pictures and other content partners such as the BBC and Wallace and Gromit creators Aardman Productions.
The attraction would also see the construction of one of the largest indoor water parks in Europe, as well as a 1,500 seat theatre with regular “West-End quality” shows, and a 5,000 bedroom on-site hotel.
Changes to the A2 and surrounding road system would include a dedicated dual carriageway access road for theme park visitors, separate from local traffic flow.
Other congestion-easing measures could include later opening and closing times to reduce the impact upon peak travel hours, alternative travel arrangements for staff on busy days at the resort, and breakdown patrol vans available along the A2 to reduce delays caused by breakdowns and accidents.
The developer is also planning on making good use of public transport, including enhancing the Fastrack bus network, creating a high frequency train service from Ebbsfleet International Station to the resort, and making use of the Thames with a river bus service.
A series of workshops held in February and March were attended by more than 600 residents and representatives from interested organisations, who discussed the impact it would have on transport, the environment, and regeneration of the area, among other topics.
This feedback, LRCH says, has “helped us to evolve the proposals” and that it is now in a position to present what it intends to submit to the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government in late summer.
