Appeal after woman's handbag stolen from car in Gravesend

Police are looking for witnesses after a woman's handbag was stolen from her as she sat in her car.

It happened in Gravesend town centre, in the car park where Zion Place joins Wrotham Road, at around 6pm yesterday.

A man opened the victims car door as she placed her bags on her front seat, before snatching it from her hands.

He then made off towards the High Street where he fell over a pole and turned right into Woodville Place.

The suspect is a white man, 5ft 9in, slim build and was wearing dark jeans with a black or navy jumper with a hood.

Officers would like anyone who saw the incident to come forward.

Detective Sergeant Marc Makin said: "We are particularly interested in locating a male who saw the incident and tried to chase the suspect.

"We would also like to hear from any other witnesses who were in the area at that time and who may have seen something."
