Police say a body has been found near a busy road in Gravesend.

The tragic discovery was made near Thames Way, just after 4pm this afternoon.

A force spokesman said officers remain at the scene and are treating the death as unexplained. Enquiries are ongoing.

The discovery was made in a wooded area. It is understood a police presence will continue when daylight resumes tomorrow.

There has been no confirmation yet whether the body is that of a man or woman.

Thames Way connects the outskirts of the Gravesend with Northfleet.

A forensics van arrived at the scene this afternoon, and a green tent is now in place.
