TV crew set up at Cascades in Gravesend to film police drama Interceptor at Nell's Cafe off A2

An eight-part police drama is being filmed at a cafe just off the A2 at Gravesend over the next few days.

A convoy of five trucks and five minibuses with cast and crew arrived yesterday afternoon.

They set up a unit base at Cascades Leisure Centre, in Thong Lane.

They are making a drama series called The Interceptor, about a law enforcement team who hunt down Britain's most ruthless criminals.

They will be filming all day today at both Nell's Cafe, just off the A2 at Gravesend, and also on the A2 where they will be shooting a driving sequence.

The leisure centre is an ideal base for the team as it has a large overflow car park and is a short drive from the cafe.

Thamesview School pupil Fraser Ross, 16, was on his way to class when he saw the convoy at around 8am today.

"They told me they were making a spin-off type programme of the drama Spooks and one of the scenes was going to be filmed at Nell’s Cafe on the A2..." - schoolboy Fraser Ross

He said he could not see any recognisable actors or television stars, but saw a few members of the production team.

He said: "I asked someone and they told me they were making a spin-off type programme of the drama Spooks and one of the scenes was going to be filmed at Nell's Cafe on the A2, so they were setting up their base at Cascades.

"There was a truck with supplies of food and drink in it. There was a big truck with 'Movie Maker' on it. I think they're going to be there for a while."

It is not the first time Nell's has been used for filming.

Last April, the classic diner became a fried chicken hut for a black comedy which was entered for the Cannes Film Festival.

Called Keeping up with the Joneses, it starred screen favourite Maxine Peake (Shameless, Silk, The Village) as an MP’s wife who was kidnapped by two criminals including Geoff Bell (War Horse, Brighton Rock, Ripper Street).
