The man who has walked 500 miles, and plans to walk almost 500 more, has received a message of good luck from the Proclaimers.

The Scottish duo penned the international smash hit I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) in the late 80s, a fitting soundtrack to a monumental fundraising journey.

Steve Nash has already covered more than 760 miles in his quest to raise £10,000 for Gravesend-based charity, Stacey's Smiles.

The 45-year-old from Vigo began his journey on Wednesday, April 25, just three days after completing the London Marathon in aid of the same cause.

He is set to finish his journey across the famous ‘End to End’ 900-mile route, between the Scottish village of John O’Groats and Land’s End, Cornwall, by this Sunday.

Steve has already raised more than £7,000 for Stacey's Smiles, which supports victims of neuroblastoma, a rare childhood cancer that predominantly affects children under five.

He has described the support he has received so far as "phenomenal", and even met South Lakes MP and former Lib Dem leader Tim Farron on his travels.

Stacey’s Smiles was launched in memory of Stacey Mowle, of Trafalgar Road, Gravesend, who lost her long and brave battle with neuroblastoma cancer in March 2015.

It was created as a legacy charity for the Stacey Mowle Appeal, set up to raise money to fund treatment in America for the nine-year-old.

Messenger readers were among the hundreds of people who supported the family, and continue to do so.

Sadly, Stacey lost her battle but the money raised continues to help others like her.

The Proclaimers send Steve Nash a message of support

The charity team, headed by Stacey’s parents Warren and Samantha Mowle, aims to treat children battling the disease, granting wishes that will generate lasting family memories.
