Plans for new retirement homes on the former Gravesend police station site are due to be submitted to Gravesham council.

The site in Windmill Street has lain vacant for more than a decade, since the £30 million North Kent Police headquarters opened in 2008, and the old police building was demolished in 2016.

Now Churchill Retirement Ltd is asking for public feedback on their scheme, which would bring 72 one and two-bedroom apartments to the town centre.

A consultation website has been set up at www.consultwithyou.co.uk/churchill/gravesend, and Churchill is expected to submit plans to the council following consultation.

They say the current site is "an eye-sore" which detracts from the area, and their proposal will provide "high quality independent living accommodation, with a communal lounge and gardens", and add: "The proposal has been sympathetically designed and will contribute positively to the character and appearance of the area."

A statement on Churchill's vision for the site, says it aims to "deliver a development that meets our customers’ needs and the local need for retirement apartments whilst also contributing to the character of Gravesend and making a positive contribution locally in terms of socio, economic and environmental benefits."
