Early morning commuters were stunned to see a runaway horse galloping through the streets of Greenhithe on Tuesday.
Motorists stuck in morning rush-hour traffic were greeted by the strange sight as the animal took to the roads.
An eyewitness Tweeted: "I saw it running towards the roundabout in Greenhithe where McDonalds is.
"It escaped from the area opposite Winston Close and was running down the pavement."
The horse, described as "quite small", was brown with a white face and feet.
It was snapped as it made its bolt for freedom by driver Joy Heard as she waited in her car.
A police spokesman confirmed on Tuesday: "This was reported to us in London Road, Greenhithe. Officers were deployed to try to locate the animal."
But they later abandoned the search after drawing a blank and failing to track the horse down.
It is unknown where it went to, what happened to it, or who owns it.
