School staff have been praised after they came to the rescue following a four-car collision.

The drama happened outside Ebbsfleet Academy, just as the school was celebrating the countdown to Christmas with a festive fair.

But many dropped everything and dashed to help after they realised what was happening outside the school gates.

Staff at Ebbsfleet Academy came to the rescue after a four-car collision in Southfleet Road, Swanscombe on Friday, December 15, at around 3pm.
Staff at Ebbsfleet Academy came to the rescue after a four-car collision in Southfleet Road, Swanscombe on Friday, December 15, at around 3pm.

Those who helped in Southfleet Road, Swanscombe, have been thanked over social media for their swift response to the emergency last Friday, just after 3pm.

They administered first aid until the arrival of an off-duty paramedic, holding a woman’s head in place for nearly an hour after the air bags in her vehicle failed.

Two ambulance crews arrived and treated three patients. One man was taken to Darent Valley Hospital with minor injuries.

Police spokesman James Walker said: “Two vehicles needed to be recovered.

“A road closure was therefore enforced and lifted at 6pm. No serious injuries were reported but one man was taken to a local hospital as a precaution.”

A spokesman for Ebbsfleet Academy said: “We are extremely grateful to these members of staff for their swift actions and assistance.

“More than anything, we are glad to hear that this accident did not cause serious injuries.”

The school fete featured food, gifts and carols performed by the Ebbsfleet Choir. Young bakers provided cupcakes, shortbread and gingerbread men for visitors to decorate and a tombola left many with great prizes to be enjoyed over the holidays.
