A series of tours of Gravesend's clock tower, built in 1887 to celebrate Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee, will be taking place to mark the 51-foot building’s £215,000 makeover.
Historian Christoph Bull will be leading the tours.
Gravesham council, who gave the green light to the project after receiving a £172,300 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund, is also calling on residents to share their old photos of the tower.
Cabinet member for heritage, Cllr Jordan Meade (Con), said: “This is a really exciting time for the community in helping with the project and getting involved in its history.
“Volunteers will scan and record the images, along with details of the dates and what was happening at the time the image was taken, and they will be uploaded to the Discover Gravesham virtual museum.”
Any old photos should be sent to kirsty.gaunt@gravesham.gov.uk.
Mr Bull’s tours will start at the old County Court (now home to The Gr@nd), King Street, on Tuesday, July 26, at 2pm and Saturday, September 10, at 11am, and at Gravesend library on Friday, September 30, at 11am.
There will also be a Halloween-themed event on Monday, October 31.
