Two teenagers have been charged after a number of people were mugged by robbers armed with what is believed to be a knife.

In the space of less than two weeks, police received four reports of robbery and one of attempted robbery in Gravesend.

The incidents took place between November 20 and December 2 in roads near the town centre.

The victims said their wallets and mobile phones were stolen and all said they were threatened with a weapon, believed to be a knife.

Afterwards, two of the victims’ bank cards were used at shops near the town.

Jayden Terry, 18, of Folkestone Road, Dover, and a 16-year-old boy from Gravesend were arrested on December 6.

Both have since been charged with four counts of robbery, an attempted robbery, fraud and two counts of possession of a bladed article in a public place.

The 16-year-old was also charged with causing grievous bodily harm without intent. This was in connection to a report that a pensioner had been assaulted in New Road, Gravesend, on December 2.

Both suspects appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court on December 8.

They were both remanded in custody and are due to appear at Maidstone Crown Court on January 5.
