Dartford performer Johnny Strange breaks six Guinness World Records

00:01, 10 September 2014

Holding apples in your mouth while slicing them in half with a chainsaw might not sound like your idea of fun, but it’s all in a day’s work for Dartford performer Johnny Strange.

Johnny’s death defying feats have won him six mentions in this year’s Guinness Book of World Records, fulfilling a dream he’s harboured since childhood.

He not only holds the record for the most apples held in the mouth and cut in half with a chainsaw, but also the record for chainsawing in half apples held in someone else’s mouth – 12 in each case.

“It was worth all the hours practising, training, and the research to achieve this,” he said.

“It’s very strange to see yourself in the book, but it’s something I’m really proud of.”

Among Johnny’s other record breaking achievements are the heaviest weight lifted by pierced ears - a lobe-lengthening 14.9kg - suspended at Doncaster Tattoo Jam last year.

And along with his performing partner Daniella D’Ville he has broken the record for the most melons chopped on the stomach of someone lying on a bed of nails – 10.

Johnny has also released the most animal traps on the body in one minute, a world-beating six.

Outside of London, more people in Kent have broken world records this year than any other county in the UK.

Adding to the scorecard is Richard Quartermaine, of Dale Road, Tunbridge Wells, who ran last year’s London marathon for charity Water Aid, posting a time of 3 hours 52 minutes.

“Some of the people dressed as toilets were going for a world record so I called up Guinness and asked about going for the record as a tap,” he explained.

An experienced runner, 41-year-old Richard had previously completed 14 marathons with an average time of 3 hours 35 minutes.

But he found the large tap costume interrupted his flow, adding 17 minutes to his time.

He said: “It wasn’t heavy but it was quite bulky and moved from side to side as I was running. It was also quite hot back in April.

“I wouldn’t like to do every marathon dressed as a tap.”
