Pepperhill household waste and recyling centre in Southfleet to close for nine weeks to repair fire damaged roof

Pepperhill household waste site is to close for nine weeks to repair a roof damaged by fire in April last year.

Kent County Council says it will have to close the site, in Station Road, Southfleet, during the stripping-out and replacement works.

Due to the design of the roof, there is no possibility of it staying open as the limited space will be taken up by a crane and rolled out steel.

The project will take 20 weeks in total to complete, however operator FCC has managed to plan a significant amount of works outside the full closure period, including a large amount of roof works.

Workers are likely to be on site for four weeks before and after the closure period - which starts on Sunday, August 18 - which may result in some minor disruption, however, KCC is keen to keep the place operating for as long as safely possible.

Waste for both Gravesham and Dartford councils will be diverted to ensure services continue during this period. No kerbside collections will be affected.

The nearest recycling centres for Gravesham residents are Swanley and Dartford, which will introduce extended hours on Wednesdays and Thursdays during the closure.

Kent residents can also continue to use Medway's centres but must take identification with them.
