A tortoise called Sonic has made a getaway and now her anxious owners are trying to track her down.
Sonic has been missing from the back garden of Perry Street Conservative Club, Northfleet, for several weeks.
Lisa Goodwin, 47, has had Sonic for 18 years.
She said: “I don’t know if she escaped or what, but if she had escaped someone would have brought her back, with all the messages I put up around Perry Street.”
Mrs Goodwin lives in a house adjoining the social club and has been a steward there for 14 years. In that time Sonic has become part of the furniture for family and customers alike.
She said: “My children are now 25 but they had her when they were little and a lot of my customers used to bring their children down to see the tortoise.
“She was very well known.”
“She likes to be hand fed. She won’t eat of her own accord but they’re quite hardy, tortoises. They’ll eat grass and weeds but she’s a bit of a diva.”
