A crash between a van and a lorry closed the London-bound carriage way of the A2 at Northfleet.
Two lanes were blocked leading to traffic queueing back four miles to the Cobham services.
It was initially reported that the accident was at the Northfleet and Ebbsfleet turn-off at the junction with the A2260 Southfleet Road.
It was estimated journey times were being delayed by 20 minutes.
A police spokesman said: "Officers are attending a collision on the London-bound carriageway of the A2 near Gravesend involving a van and a lorry."
Police were called to the crash at 8.11am this morning.
There are no reports of injuries. Both vehicles are now on the hard shoulder.
