June 6 is a date forever etched in veterans' minds.
It was the day, in 1944, of the biggest seaborne invasion along the Normandy coasts.
Within hours thousands of allied troops stormed five beaches, in what was later known to all as Operation Overlord.
Its aim was to form a landing stage to free occupied France and other nations from Nazi tyranny.
Now, 65 years later, veterans will be returning today to mark this poignant anniversary.

We spoke to veterans from Gravesend, who recall that fateful day decades later - as if it was yesterday.
