Dog walkers at Jeskyns Community Woodland joined groups across the country to raise awareness of dog theft.

The gathering at the park in Henhurst Road, Cobham, was prompted by the disappearance of Border Terriers Ruby and Beetle, who went missing in Scotland, with their owners suspecting dognappers are to blame.

Jane Fuller, who lives near Camer Park in Meopham, was one of the many pet owners affected by the story.

Jane, 72, who owns rescued Border Terrier Daisy, said with pedigree pets often selling for hundreds of pounds, it's important to raise awareness of the issue.

She said: "All dogs should be microchipped, and all details kept up-to-date.

"If someone buys a stolen dog in good faith and takes it to the vet, a chip can reveal the true owners.

"Losing a pet is the most terrible thing - like losing a child.

"I will always help out, even if it's by sharing things on social media."
