Discount store proposal couple Ann Russell and Robin Dyke are now wed

A woman who proposed to her partner in a discount store has married the man of her dreams.

Ann Russell popped the question to Robin Dyke at the B&M shop in New Road, Gravesend, in February.

She got down on one knee in one of the store’s aisles and the couple walked down a different aisle on Saturday when they got married at St Mary Greenhithe Church, in London Road.

The setting for the proposal was not most people’s idea of a romantic place, but was perfect for Ann and Robin as they love shopping there.

Care assistant Ann, 49, and Robin 53, met when they were children but lost contact until almost 10 years ago, when they bumped into each other and Robin asked her out.

B&M staff captured the moment as partner Robin accepted the ring – while clutching a frying pan he had picked up at the shop.

And this marriage is sure to have a long life after she proposed in the battery section.

At the time, Ann, who is from Dartford, said the couple both loved going to the shop each week.

She said: “I had not long bought the ring when we popped into B&M for our weekly shop.

“The atmosphere in there is lovely and the staff are really friendly so I asked one of the ladies if I could propose to Robin in store.

“It just felt like the right moment. It was perfect.”

Robin, a dad-of-six, said: “I was completely shocked when I walked into B&M for a frying pan and came out with a fiancee.”

The couple were surrounded by family and friends for Saturday’s ceremony.

Speaking afterwards, the new Mrs Dyke said: “The wedding went very well we had a fantastic time. It was an adorable day with our family and friends.

“Our reception was held at the Old Gravesendians Rugby Club and I can’t thank the staff enough – everyone had a wonderful time.”

A spokesman for B&M said: “Ann and Robin are regular customers. We’re used to seeing them walk down the aisles of B&M, so we couldn’t be happier that they have finally walked down the wedding aisle.

“We would like to wish them the best of luck for the future.”
