A Britain's Got Talent singer got a star's welcome when he returned to work at a youth club in his hometown.

Harrison Pettman, from Gravesend was back showing young people the art of performing in his role as a youth worker at the healthy living centre in the Grand Gravesend, in Wilfred Street.

Just days after his appearance on national TV Harrison was back at The Grand and Gifted Young Gravesham (GYG) youth service helping the centre support the needs of adults and young people with projects ranging from free exercise to singing and mental health.

Colleague Caroline McNally, a youth work specialist, said: "Harrison has been coming to GYG (Gifted Young Generation) since 2012 and has grown to be the world-class performer he is now.

“He takes our breath away with every performance, but additionally, he is the most amazing youth worker, supporting other young people to realise their dreams.

“Harrison really is an extremely humble, genuine and giving person.

“We wish him every success and we hope the world comes to love him as much as we here at GYG do.”

The GYG has only just secured a cash boost to allow it to continue after it was threatened with closure when Kent County Council (KCC) ended its subsidy programme for youth clubs and other activities.

Harrison, a full-time security guard and youth worker, who is a former Bird College student, got a standing ovation for his rendition of ‘With You’ from Ghost the Musical when he appeared in the new series of the primetime ITV show.

The 23-year-old captured viewers’ hearts when he tricked his parents into thinking he was just there with them as part of the audience before he “nipped off to the toilet” and appeared on the stage.

He will next hit our screens for deliberation day as the judges cut the numbers down for the next part of the process.

A few days on, Harrison and his parents appeared on Good Morning Britain to discuss his audition - although his dad had some choice words for Simon.

When asked by hosts Susanna Reid and Richard Madeley about what they thought of his feedback, dad Ian didn’t hold back.

‘He’s just lucky he was sitting further away from me,’ he quipped.

Harrison is not the only singer with links to Gravesham to win acclaim on the show this season.

Sydnie Christmas was given the Golden Buzzer by judge Amanda Holden in last week’s show and marched straight through to the semi-final.

The 28-year-old vowed the judges with her rendition of “Tomorrow” from the musical Annie.
