The coronavirus outbreak has had a major impact on how we all live our lives to stop the spread of the disease.

But council services still need to run to help keep our bins collected, roads safe and vulnerable people looked after.

Gravesham Borough Council has made changes to several of its services for residents and we'll be keeping you updated throughout the lockdown on the impact to services, what advice is being issued and what is closed.

Events

All council run events currently cancelled until the end of June.

Bin collections

At the moment, Gravesham Borough Council says waste and recycling collections are operating at full service, including garden waste.

Vulnerable people

The council is taking emergency referrals for support for those vulnerable and at risk during Covid-19 restrictions via www.gravesham.gov.uk/support or 01474 337070.

Emergency house repairs are also still taking place.

Parking

Car parks are open as usual but currently there are no charges.

In resident parking areas, the council is not currently expecting permit holders in Resident Parking Schemes, Permit Parking Areas or Controlled Parking Zones to renew their permits if their current one has expired. All current permits will be accepted as valid until Saturday, June, 27.

Closures

The Civic Centre is closed but the customer service line, 01474 337000, and webchat is available as usual.

All council meetings are currently suspended until the end of April.

The Woodville is closed as are Cascades and Cygnets leisure centres.

Cemeteries have also closed to the public in line with government legislation.

Most parks and public spaces are open, but play areas and outdoor gyms are closed and out of bounds.

The exception is Fort Gardens which has been closed at the request of the police due to anti-social behaviour.

Council spokesman, Andy Rayfield said: "We are asking people to use these spaces responsibly and to follow government guidance on social distancing."

Queries relating to council tax, business rates and housing benefits are being handled as usual.
