A man who was found hanged in woodland had made multiple attempts to take his life, an inquest heard.

Daniel Vane, of Imperial Drive, Gravesend, was discovered by three youngsters in Shorne on April 28.

The 23-year-old had left for the shops at around 11am and his family became alarmed when he didn't return, coroner for north west Kent Roger Hatch was told during a hearing at Maidstone's Archbishop's Palace.

His mother Sharon and sisters Roxanne and Lauren rushed out to search for him while his father Michael remained at the family home in case he returned.

DS Lynn Lewis, the lead officer in the investigation into his death, explained how a full search with aerial assistance was launched.

She said: “Kent Police received a call at 12.33pm from Daniel’s sister Roxanne Barrow that her brother had left at 11am to go to the shops and never returned.

“Air support and officers were all deployed as soon as possible.”

A few hours later his body was found. His cause of death was confirmed as a result of hanging.

DS Lewis said a note was found on Daniel’s debit card that read: “I’m sorry for my debt.”

Another note found in Daniel’s room said: “I will be with nan for a while.

“No-one can deal with this psychosis.”

In a statement written by Daniel’s mother, and read by his sister Roxanne, she detailed how her son’s personality began to change when he left college, stating he became “withdrawn and quiet”.

Mrs Vane’s statement continued, highlighting that the night before her son’s death “it seemed like he was trying to say goodbye”, as he repeatedly told her not to worry about him.

In another note left by Daniel that was found in his trousers, he told his family: “I love you all. I’m sorry this has to happen.

"No-one can deal with this level of schizophrenia.

"You’ll see me behind your eyelids, you’ll see me again soon. I’ll always be with you.”

The inquest was adjourned after it was revealed important medical documents were not sent to the coroner or family.
