An 11-year-old has been celebrating after she won a national title on Sunday.

Millie Greenfield claimed the National ABA boxing crown following a tough three-round battle against Miley Rob, near Swindon, with Greenfield winning the bout by a unanimous decision.

The member of the Star Boxing and Kickboxing Academy in Lower Shorne, Gravesend, is trained by father-and-son coaches Leigh and Paul Haworth, alongside the club’s other instructors.

“She did really, really well,” said Leigh, who believes Greenfield - dubbed the “Hit Girl” - may be ready to become a black-belt kickboxer by this November.

“It was a tough fight. Millie, actually, is a kickboxer but they sort of reach a point where they want to become more diverse.

“So she started doing some boxing with us and the rest is history.

“There were lots of people there and lots of them said it was the fight of the day.”

Greenfield has been training at the club since she was six.

Leigh said: “She almost lives down the club! Bearing in mind she fought on Sunday, she was helping me teach a lesson on Monday - and then boxing straight away after that.

“She said every part of her body hurt.

"She is very dedicated, a very quiet girl, but very dedicated.”

The Star Boxing and Kickboxing Academy has an established reputation as a kickboxing club but is now trying to make their way in the boxing world, too.

“We have got a big history anyway because we have had 15 world titles in kickboxing,” Leigh stated. “Now, we are breaking into the boxing side of it as well.

“The girls in Gravesend are tough cookies. Most of the world titles have come from girls and women."

“Since the lockdowns, the club is really starting to pick up again,” Leigh continued, revealing the club have more than 200 members from as young as four to adults.

“There’s lots of new members and it all seems to be going well.”

The club, which hold beginners sessions and ladies-only classes, are also hoping to be involved at the Northfleet Carnival this year.
