Ebbsfleet manager Steve Brown has criticised the "arrogant" referee who angered him and his players last weekend.

The Fleet had three big penalty appeals turned down in their 1-1 draw at Whitehawk but it was official Adam Crysell’s manner which annoyed Brown most.

He said: "The man was extremely arrogant, which winds managers up more than anything.

"We have to be dignified and show respect to officials, otherwise we’re hauled in front of the FA.

"The FA have told us how to behave but you ask (the ref) a question and they don’t have the grace to give you an answer. They run off as though you don’t exist.

"It winds you up even more and it creates an atmosphere. And then you have to shake hands at the end of the game and he’s got a smug grin.

"It’s a passionate game, a pressure-cooker atmosphere. I wear my heart on my sleeve but I try to be as calculated as I can (when I speak).

"You try to be the bigger person but I don’t think referees truly understand how important wrong decisions can be."
