Anthony Cook says both he and Ebbsfleet are better equipped for the play-offs than they were this time last year.

Fleet picked up 12 more points than they did in 2015/16 and charge into their semi-final against Hampton & Richmond on the back of a 20-match unbeaten league run.

But Cook insists Ebbsfleet's belief is rooted in more than statistics almost a year on from their crushing play-off final defeat at the hands of Maidstone.

Cook said: "We’re confident playing against anyone. If we give our all and do what we’re supposed to do, we’ll win the game.

"Since the turn of the year, we’ve all had the same goal, the same agenda, whether you’re starting or you’re on the bench. The atmosphere in the squad is brilliant so as long as we do our job, we don’t care who we come across.

"It’s not going to be easy but you have to play against the better teams to go up anyway.

"Last year we were being hunted (by eventual champions Sutton) and this year we were the hunters. Unfortunately we couldn’t catch up but we’ve had a good run.

"When you look at it, if you think you win 17 and draw three of your last 20 league games of the season, you think you might win the league but fair play to Maidenhead, they’ve done tremendous, grinding out results, getting late victories and they’ve won the league.

"We’ve got to keep going for an extra two weeks. We’re fit, we’re strong and we’re raring to go. We can’t wait."

Cook, now in his second spell at the club, scored his 12th goal of the season on Saturday to earn Ebbsfleet a 1-0 win over Oxford City.

It may not have won the title but that strike kept Fleet's winning run going - that's now 12 in a row at Stonebridge Road - and underlined what a good season Cook has had.

A winger by trade, he's also been used as a wing-back and full-back by manager Daryl McMahon and has grown into a more mature footballer.

Cook said: "I’m definitely more experienced.

"I’ve learnt a lot more about myself, playing in a new position. I think I’ve become more versatile and I’ve become much more of a team player this year.

"Everyone in the team knows their job and when we do our jobs properly, we more or less win the game."

He added: "I get a buzz playing in front of a big crowd. The rest of the boys, the atmosphere’s good in there and we to crack on and get promoted."

The first leg of Ebbsfleet's play-off semi-final is at Hampton on Wednesday (7.45pm).
