It was all about the result for Ebbsfleet manager Jamie Day on Tuesday night.

Fleet scraped a 3-2 win at home to Staines Town, who are 10 points adrift of safety at the bottom of Vanarama Conference South.

But victory edged Day's side closer to the play-off places and he was satisfied after the game.

He said: "If you take the second goal out of it (when goalkeeper Preston Edwards let a backpass roll into his net), I didn’t think we were under too much pressure. It was workmanlike.

"I thought we had some good patches where we played some really good football. I think we probably put ourselves under more pressure than Staines did but it’s three points and we move onto Saturday."

Staines had been hammered 6-0 at home by Bromley three days earlier.

Day said: "People probably came here and thought we’d win 5-0 or 6-0 but it doesn’t work like that. We said at the start of the game that if we get three points, it’s job done.

"We know people are going to raise their game against us and Staines did that.

"We started the game really well and got a goal after two minutes but I was disappointed with the next 10 minutes, to let them back into the game so early. No disrespect to them but better teams will punish us for that so it’s something we’ve got to learn from.

"At 3-1, we were comfortable, and even until the second goal happened for them, I didn’t think we were under too much bother.

"But when the second goes in, we did get a little bit edgy so I was pleased to finish the game and get the three points."
