Ebbsfleet manager Jamie Day expects Danny Kedwell to keep fighting for his place in the Gillingham team.

Day wants to add at least one striker to his Fleet squad and Kedwell, who's been left out of Peter Taylor's starting XI recently, has been mentioned as a potential transfer target.

But Day said: "I think Keds want to fight for his place at Gillingham.

"He’d be dropping three leagues to come to us, so that’s a big drop for a player of his stature.

"He’s a friend of mine and we talk but I think he’ll probably want to stay at Gillingham and play for them."

Kedwell, who counts Chatham, Tonbridge, Maidstone and Welling among his former clubs, last played non-league football with AFC Wimbledon in 2011.

More firepower is definitely needed at the PHB Stadium, where Ebbsfleet were beaten 1-0 by Vanarama Conference South strugglers Weston-super-Mare on Saturday.

Day said: "We created enough chances but we just didn’t have enough to put it in the back of the net - whether that’s a little bit of luck or it’s personnel.

"I think anyone looking at the game knows where we need to strengthen and we will look to do that."
