The task of reeling in Vanarama Conference South leaders Boreham Wood begins this weekend for Jamie Day and Ebbsfleet United.

Fleet are 10 points behind Wood with a game in hand. They will be halfway through their league fixtures after Saturday’s home game against Weston-super-Mare, which will be Day’s first match in charge.

He said: "It’s a big gap and Boreham Wood are in good form. We’ve just got to be positive and confident in the group of players we’ve got and the ability we’ve got in the dressing room.

"We’ve got to win games if we’re going to try to catch Boreham Wood or whoever’s top. There are 21 games left so we’ve got to win a good majority of them.

"We’ll be positive, we’ll go out and try to win games, we’ll be attacking and hopefully one or two above us slip up and have a loss of form. Obviously, we can’t really afford to do that.

"We need to make sure we’re consistent from now to the end of the season.

"Boreham Wood are in the driving seat but we’ve got to do what we can to catch them up."

Weston arrive at the PHB Stadium second-bottom with just 15 points from 18 games.

Day said: "We’ve got to be on the front foot and take the game to them. If the boys apply themselves how I know they can and take on board what we’re saying, then we can go and get a win.

"It’s not going to be easy, no games are easy, so first and foremost there needs to be hard work and the desire to want to win the game."

Day is keen for the people of Gravesham to back his team in their promotion push.

"We like to play attacking football," he said. "We like to pass and play quickly and we like to score goals.

"The boys have shown they can keep clean sheets, so that’s not a major issue.

"Hopefully good numbers come out and cheer the boys on and are nice and positive and we can start with a win."
